Regional Agriculture-Biodiesel Partnership - 09/26/08

Everett, WA - Snohomish County, Washington. County Executive Aaron Reardon signed an agreement with Wolfkill-Whole Energy LLC to install and operate an oilseed dryer and crusher facility. The agreement represents the culmination of the Snohomish County Farm-Grown Fuel Project to raise and process locally grown oilseed crops for the production of biodiesel and high-quality feed meal. Involved in the program are the Sno/Sky Agriculture Alliance, the Institute for Washington's Future, and Snohomish County.

The drying operation is at a local landfill site where recovered methane gas will be used to dry the seeds. The crusher will produce oil that will be used to make biodiesel for the county's transportation needs and to provide high quality, fresh, local feed for the region's dairy industry including high-value organic meal. "Whole Energy believes this distributed, local model is the most beneficial and one of the few environmentally sustainable pathways to biofuel production," says Atul Deshmane, President of Whole Energy. "We are honored and excited to be working with local farmers and government in this way."
